EPPO is recruiting a full time Assistant Director. The appointment will be for a fixed term of three years with the possibility of extension and a permanent post after five years of satisfactory service. The post will be based in Paris. The starting salary will be based on the UNESCO P4 salary scale. 

Introduction to EPPO

The European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) is an intergovernmental organization responsible for international cooperation in plant protection in the European and Mediterranean region. In the sense of the article IX of the FAO International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), it is the Regional Plant Protection Organization for Europe. Founded in 1951 with 15 member governments, it now has 52 member governments including nearly every country of Western and Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean region.

The EPPO Secretariat is based in Paris and consists of 18 persons headed by a Director-General and an Assistant Director and carries out the work programme approved by the EPPO Council. EPPO is financed directly by annual contributions from its member governments. Its official languages are English, French and for certain purposes Russian. EPPO is also hosting two networks: Euphresco (research coordination) and the European Minor Uses Coordination Facility (MUCF).

The Assistant Director leads the work programme of EPPO in Phytosanitary Regulations, specifically the work on Diagnostics and Pest Risk Analysis. The Assistant Director chairs several EPPO Panels and participates in projects. The Assistant Director is a member of the Management Team of the EPPO Secretariat and replaces the Director-General when needed.

The Assistant Director will be based in Paris and work under the supervision of the Director-General of EPPO. For good interaction with the team the majority of the working time is expected to be spent in the office but some flexibility for working from home is available.

Salary and benefits

Terms and conditions are based on those of UNESCO adapted to the needs of EPPO. The salary paid will be based on the UNESCO P4 salary scale starting at P4/1. Net of tax and deductions this will be at least 82 000 EUR per annum.
EPPO participates in the UN Joint Staff Pension Fund, the French Social Security system and a supplementary health insurance scheme.
For staff recruited outside France removal expenses and a settling-in grant are payable. Based on the agreement between EPPO and the French government, EPPO will arrange a work permit for the post, if needed, and a permit allowing dependents to reside in France, if applicable and needed.

All documents should be written in English and provided as separate files. As a first step interviews will be held by videoconference. Then shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview in Paris which will include a written and oral exercises.
Video-interviews will be organized in October 2022 and interviews in Paris will be organized in early November 2022.
The selected candidate should preferably start in the beginning of 2023 to ensure overlap with the current Assistant Director for transition of the work.
